About Course

Join Mya this summer for an enriching and empowering literacy course centered around her groundbreaking story, The Ballerina Who Lost Her Fro! This course is designed for students in grades 3-6 to complete independently at their own pace. The course aims to teach early literacy and advanced comprehension techniques, supporting children in reading at or above grade level from an early age. Inspired by the Minnesota READ Act, the curriculum fosters a love for reading and helps students meet essential literacy goals. While this course is specifically tailored to resonate with Black girls, all children are welcome to participate and benefit from the engaging and inclusive curriculum. Throughout this four-week unit, students will immerse themselves in the world of Mya, a young Brown girl ballerina who discovers the importance of self-love and confidence.

The course will explore themes of identity, resilience, and the beauty of natural hair through interactive activities, discussions, and creative projects.
